The invention relates to a method to automatically convert a format of a file stored in an image forming apparatus and send the converted file to a remote device. The method includes the steps of displaying a plurality of tasks executable by the image forming apparatus; receiving user input for selecting e-mailing tasks from the displayed plurality of tasks so as to send the file via e-mail transmission; receiving the user input for selecting a file that is stored in a format compatible with a task different from the selected e-mailing tasks and is to send to the remote device through the e-mail transmission from a plurality of files that are stored in the image forming apparatus; converting a data format of the selected file to be send to the remote device via the e-mail transmission into an intermediate format and converting the format of the selected file from the intermediate format into one of a plurality of predetermined formats for the e-mailing tasks; and sending the converted file to the remote device via the e-mail transmission.
