Systems and tuned magnetic dashpots for using inductor(s) in magnetic skyhook damper isolation
Abstract:
An example system for using an inductor in magnetic skyhook damper isolation includes a first component moveable with respect to a second component, and a tuned magnetic dashpot positioned between the first component and the second component. The tuned magnetic dashpot damps movement of the first component relative to the second component, and includes a voice coil coupled to the first component, a magnet coupled to the second component and concentric with the voice coil, and an inductor positioned in series with the voice coil to enable frequency dependent damping, such that damping below a critical frequency √{square root over (2)}ωn is greater than damping above the critical frequency √{square root over (2)}ωn, where ωn is a natural frequency of movement of the first component relative to the second component.
