Spacewidths between the teeth are incrementally cut deeper. The axial spacing between the tool and workpiece spindles and a turning angle is changed between the processing steps in such a way that a first cutting edge section of the cutting tooth engages on a tooth flank section of a first tooth flank produced during a preceding processing step with an at least reduced material removal referred to other cutting edge sections of this cutting tooth.
