The illustrative method includes receiving an analog signal from the signal source, converting the analog signal into a digital signal having a frequency that is representative of an amplitude of the analog signal, and monitoring at least one parameter of the analog signal by counting features of the digital signal or time-measuring a distance between the features of the digital signal.
