Also described herein are methods of preparing a microneedle device comprising a recombinant alphavirus replicon encoding an exogenous polypeptide. Also disclosed herein are methods of inducing an immune response in an individual comprising contacting the individual with a microneedle device comprising a recombinant alphavirus replicon encoding an exogenous polypeptide.
