A communication device is arranged for three main communication states: a detached state, an idle state, and an active state. The communication device connects to the cellular communication network such that a transition from the detached state to any of idle state or active state is made, performs scheduled operations in the active state or idle state, determines, when a transition from the active state to the idle state occurs, a time instant for a next operation in the active state, disconnects from the cellular communication network such that a transition to the detached state is made, and, when the time for next operation in the active state is approaching, connects to the cellular communication network again.
