In contrast, even when the user's silent mode setting has been received by the setting reception section, in a case where it is determined by the determination section that the copying is a copying intended for a spread document, the mode shift section shifts the image forming apparatus to the standby mode upon passage of a predefined standby time while the image forming apparatus is kept unoperated.
