In a liquid crystal display according to an aspect of the present invention, alignment films are disposed on a surface of an array substrate and a surface of a counter substrate. The alignment films are each disposed in a display region and each have an overlap with part of the inside of a sealant. The surfaces of the substrates in the overlaps each have an uneven surface. All over an outer edge portion of the sealant, a portion is disposed in which the sealant is joined to the surfaces of the individual substrates without the alignment films interposed therebetween.
