A method for converting a cable winch, comprising a cable drum, a drive motor, a transmission unit, and a supporting frame, between a C-shape arrangement and a quasi-coaxial-shape arrangement, for which purpose the transmission unit, in the case of the use of different housings, in particular specific housing shells that can be assembled in order to form the different housings, is assembled differently for the C shape or coaxial shape while the same parts, in particular identical shafts, are used within the particular housing.
