The wireless communication circuit receives one or more local area wireless communication signals identifying one or more external electronic devices operating within an environment of the device. The one or more processors select a local area wireless communication signal having a power magnitude experiencing a highest amount of change from the one or more local area wireless communication signals and perform a pairing operation with an external device identified by the local area wireless communication signal.
