The apparatus includes an input unit configured to receive inputs of luminance dynamic range information of the input image data and exposure condition information at the time of imaging regarding the input image data, an acquisition unit configured to acquire characteristic information of the recording medium, and a determination unit configured to determine the illumination condition based on the luminance dynamic range information, the exposure condition information, and the characteristic information.
