The liquid crystal display element includes a first substrate having a first terminal and a display pixel unit, and a second substrate disposed at a side where illumination light is irradiated to the first substrate. A bonding wire has an arch shape, is formed such that a top of the bonding wire is lower than an upper surface of the second substrate, is joined to the first terminal by first bonding, and is joined to the second terminal by second bonding. The light shielding mask has a light transmitting region corresponding to the display pixel unit and is disposed at a side where the illumination light is irradiated to the liquid crystal display element.
