In some implementations, a residential sensor device includes one or more sensors operative to sense activity in a living space, one or more processors, and logic encoded in one or more non-transitory computer-readable storage media for execution by the one or more processors. The logic when executed is operable to perform operations including receiving a plurality of user changes to at least one default setting of the sensor device. The logic when executed is further operable to perform operations including determining a setting adjustment policy, wherein the setting adjustment policy is based on user change information associated with the plurality of user changes. The logic when executed is further operable to perform operations including adjusting the at least one default setting based on the setting adjustment policy.
