A wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) scanning operation is performed through a Wi-Fi scanning unit to obtain N feedback durations corresponding to N access points (APs). The first AP is any one of the N APs and N is an integer greater than one. When an access instruction for the second AP is detected, first power of information transmission is determined according to a feedback duration corresponding to the second AP. The first power is equal to second power plus a first power variable, where a value of the first power variable is greater than zero when the feedback duration corresponding to the second AP is within a preset duration range. An access request is transmitted to the second AP at the first power. A terminal device is also provided.
