Included are setting a voltage of a counter electrode to a specific counter voltage and capturing an image of a display screen; capturing each image of the display screen while increasing and decreasing the voltage of the counter electrode by a predetermined voltage; detecting a luminance value for each of a plurality of regions of the display screen each time an image is captured; determining a correction voltage for each of the region, for correcting a deviation of the counter voltage, based on a luminance value detected without varying a voltage of the counter electrode and luminance values each detected while increasing and decreasing a voltage of the counter electrode and superimposing a determined correction voltage on the data signal having an amplitude corresponding to a grayscale value.
