The reflective display element includes a unit for adjusting the amount of light which changes its arrangement on the basis of electric power supplied from an electrode and blocks light with the unit for adjusting the amount of light to change the intensity of reflected light. Electrophoretic particles, a shutter, a film which reflects part of light, a film which reflects light, or the like can be used as the unit for adjusting the amount of light.
