The digital microscope includes an adjustable imaging system configured to display an object on an electronic display device, a control device which adjusts the imaging system, and a distance capturing device configured to determine a distance between an observer and the display device. The control device determines a perceivable structure size, perceivable on the display device, depending on the distance, and adjusts the imaging system to permit a resolved structure size, resolved by the display device, to be identical to the perceivable structure size within a given tolerance range.
