A BSA includes a panel that includes a ground plane, at least a first array that includes multiple radiating elements, at least one sensor that is configured to sense an environmental condition corresponding to the base station antenna and to generate an environmental condition signal that corresponds to the environmental condition, a circuit device that includes a communication interface that is communicatively coupled to the at least one sensor and that is operable to receive the environmental condition signal from the at least one sensor, and a wireless transmitter that is communicatively coupled to the circuit device and that is operable to transmit message data corresponding to the environmental condition signal to a remote receiver.
