An image forming apparatus includes an image forming portion for forming an image on a sheet; a display portion that displays a predetermined display for accepting, through touch operation, start of a predetermined operation of the apparatus; a position detector that detects a touched position when the touch operation is carried out; and a controller that controls the predetermined operation on the basis of the touched position detected by the position detecting portion. The controller executes the predetermined operation when the predetermined display is made on the display portion, and the position detecting portion detects the touched position, and the controller does not execute the predetermined operation when the predetermined display is not made on the display portion due to display failure, and the position detecting portion detects the touched position.
