A rotor core includes a magnet insertion hole corresponding to one magnetic pole, and a plurality of slits on an outer side of the magnet insertion hole in the radial direction. The slits include a first slit located most upstream in the rotating direction. Each slit has a tip portion and a root portion. The tip portion of the first slit is located upstream of the root portion of the first slit in the rotating direction, and is located upstream of a magnetic pole center in the rotating direction. The root portions of the slits are disposed more in number in a second region downstream of the magnetic pole center in the rotating direction than in a first region upstream of the magnetic pole center in the rotating direction.
