The cooking grate includes a cooking utensil support region; and a gas transfer portion extending from the cooking utensil support region and having a gas transfer chamber, a plurality of gas outlets extending from the gas transfer chamber to a burn region outside of the gas transfer portion, and a gas inlet extending from an area outside of the gas transfer portion to the gas transfer chamber.
