Calculating a collective road departure value based on the set of drive parameter values. When the road departure value exceeds a road departure threshold value, adapt at least one of the speed of the vehicle or the steering torque applied by the steering control system to the steerable wheels of the vehicle, until the road departure value is below the road departure threshold value.
