The method comprises: transmitting a random access preamble for early data transmission (EDT) on a physical random access channel resource for EDT; receiving a random access response (RAR); and performing fallback to a non-EDT procedure if it is determined according to an uplink grant in the received RAR that EDT transmission cannot be performed.
