The absorbent insert has a fluid-impermeable base layer, an absorbent core, and a fluid-permeable top layer. The non-woven patch covers an end of the absorbent insert. A first portion of the non-woven patch is adhered to both the fluid-permeable top layer of the absorbent insert and the garment layer with an adhesive. A second portion of the non-woven patch is free and forms a pouch. An end portion of the absorbent core is disposed adjacent to the second portion of the non-woven patch. The barrier extends along a width of the absorbent insert. The barrier extends through the fluid-permeable top layer of the absorbent core and connects the fluid-impermeable base layer and the one non-woven patch to direct fluid flow to the absorbent core and militate against fluid overflow.
