In an embodiment, a method for wireless communications involves, in a punctured transmission, encoding, bits in a non-legacy preamble portion of a packet to include bandwidth information and resource allocation information, and signaling, in the packet, the bandwidth information and resource allocation information for at least one of a single-user-multiple-input multiple-output (SU-MIMO) technique, a multiple-user-multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) technique, and an orthogonal frequency-division multiple access (OFDMA) technique.
