The transmitter is configured to precode a data word into a precoded data word using a probabilistic shaping scheme, wherein the probabilistic shaping scheme depends on one or more precoding parameters. The precoded data word is encoded into a codeword using a modulation and/or coding scheme, wherein the modulation and/or coding scheme depends on one or more modulation and coding parameters. At least one precoding parameter is determined on the basis of at least one of the one or more modulation and coding parameters and/or on the basis of at least one further precoding parameter.
