In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive configuration information identifying a set of transmission configuration indicator (TCI) states and a TCI-field codepoint mapping, wherein an active subset of the set of TCI states is active in accordance with a default configuration. The UE may communicate, based at least in part on the TCI-field codepoint mapping and the default configuration, using a default active TCI state of the active subset of the set of TCI states.
