Ultrasonically flared medical-device components and methods thereof
Abstract:
A catheter assembly is provided that has a core wire that is at least partially disposed within a lumen of an elongate body including a proximal terminus and a distal terminus of the core wire. The catheter assembly also has a sonic connector at the proximal terminus of the core wire and a tip member at the distal terminus of the core wire. The sonic connector is configured to connect to an ultrasound transducer. The tip member is directly attached to the core wire. The tip member has a cavitation-induced exposed surface. The cavitation-induced exposed surface is configured to introduce a plurality of nanocavities upon exposure of the tip member to a vibrational energy received from the core wire via the sonic connector.
