The light module includes a light source; an electronic circuit for driving the light source; where the electronic circuit includes a current source, where the current source is designated for generating and controlling a control current for driving the light source, and a protection controller, where the protection controller is designated for interrupting the control current to the light source in an event in which the current source fails. The light module and the related method address an eye-safe operation of the light module, specifically for a laser light source included by the light module to achieve compliance to laser safety class 1.
