The disclosed biomedical materials or constructs may be multiphasic and typically provide a surface for cell growth. The disclosed biomedical materials and constructs typically comprise conjugable and/or adhesive chemical moieties, such as hydroxylated aromatic moieties, which facilitate integration of the components of the biomedical materials and constructs. Suitable hydroxylated aromatic moieties may include dihydroxybenzene (DHB) moieties, such as 1,2-DHB moeities, and derivatives thereof.
