Various aspects of the present disclosure generally relate to wireless communication. In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may transmit an indication associated with phase noise characteristics of the UE. The UE may receive an indication of pilot allocation sizes, for different data modulation and coding schemes (MCSs) for communications, of frequency-domain contiguous pilots for phase noise mitigation based at least in part on the indication associated with the phase noise characteristics of the UE.
