Abstract:
The present invention provides a method of demulsifying an emulsion comprising water and oil, the method comprising adding an effective amount of a composition comprising a) an esterquat surfactant of the following formula (1) wherein R1 is a C5-C29 aliphatic hydrocarbon group, R2 is —C2H4OH or —C2H4OCOR1, R3 is —C2H4OH or —C2H4OCOR1 or a C1-C10 aliphatic hydrocarbon group R4 is a C1-C10 aliphatic hydrocarbon group X is an anion, b) water, at least one organic solvent or both to the emulsion.
