The application head has at least one application roller that applies the coating substance to the strip, and having at least one supporting roller disposed on the side of the strip opposite the application head. The application head works on the strip either in a first functional position where the strip is supported by the supporting roller, or, in a second functional position outside of the supporting region of the supporting roller.
