The remote control device includes an external slit portion, an internal slit portion, a light receiving element, and a control circuit. The external slit portion and internal slit portion are arranged such that a prolonged line of each opening crosses a reception region of the light receiving element. The light receiving element is connected to the control circuit via a signal line. The external slit portion is formed such that the opening is located vertically when the remote control device is operated. The internal slit is formed such that the longitudinal direction of the opening is placed vertically when the remote control device is operated.
