Here, each pixel comprises: a pixel capacitor having a pixel electrode and a common electrode opposed to the pixel electrode; and a switching element for electrically connecting the corresponding data line to the pixel electrode when the corresponding scanning line is selected. The writing circuit comprises an inversion circuit for maintaining a voltage between a potential of the data line and a predetermined potential for a predetermined time, and inverting the maintained voltage with respect to a reference potential and applying the inverted voltage to the data line after the lapse of the predetermined time, in a period of time when one scanning line of the plurality of scanning lines is selected.
