The sliding cover device includes a cover slidable with respect to the camera unit, a pair of arm members supporting the cover on both sides from a back surface of the cover and extending along the sides of the cover, a frame member supporting the arm members such that the arm members are slidable along respectively predetermined sliding paths, and a body surface member secured to the frame member and having a surface thereof flush with a surface of the cover at a closed position. The sliding paths are defined such that, when the cover is moved from the closed position to an open position, the arm members slide into a space below the body surface member and the cover rides onto the body surface member.
