The method according to the invention comprises: detecting the direction of movement indicated by the input device when the start of the character entering function has been detected; showing the character of the character area on the display, towards which character area the direction of movement indicated by the input device is proceeding; detecting the termination of the character entering function; interpreting the character towards whose character area the direction of movement was last detected to proceed as the character to be entered next, when the termination of the character entering function is detected.
