The recording medium includes a data area, and a management area for recording control information capable of identifying write compatibility and read compatibility with a driver for recording or reading data on or from the recording medium. Herein, the control information may include a class number for identifying the read compatibility, and a version number for identifying the write compatibility, and the write compatibility may be determined using the version number within the class number.
