In the press chamber, n partial compressed bales can be produced in n first press steps, with a flat cuboid form with the edge lengths A, B and C/n. A storage space is arranged downstream from the press chamber, n partial compressed bales being transferable into the storage space. The partial compressed bales can be joined in the storage space to form the cuboid compressed bales with the edge lengths A, B and C. The press chamber is separated from the storage space by a mobile partition, and an opening-that can be freed by the partition has at least the dimension A×B in the opening position, such that a partial compressed bale formed in the press chamber can be transported into the storage space through the opening.
