A plurality of alignment control structures including a dielectric protrusion protruded toward the liquid crystal layer from the inner surface of the substrate is provided in a dot area constituting one unit of display. When that the dielectric constant of the dielectric protrusion is εt1, the dielectric constant of a major axis direction of liquid crystal molecules constituting the liquid crystal layer is ε//, and the dielectric constant of a minor axis direction thereof is ε⊥, the dielectric constants satisfy the expression ε⊥>ε//>εt1.
