An alkanediol composition contains 0.2 parts by mass or less of dioxane compound per 100 parts by mass of alkanediol compound having four or more carbon atoms. Furthermore, an ether-containing dihydric alcohol is preferably 0.3 parts by mass or less per 100 parts by mass of alkanediol compound.
