A module for use in a communications network in which a plurality of signals are transmitted between respective first and second nodes, the module having an engine for receiving the plurality of signals over the network, for extracting protocol data therefrom and for providing the extracted protocol data to an analyzer; and a processor for controlling operation of the engine and analyzer.
