The liquid crystal device includes: a liquid crystal panel including a pair of substrates which interpose a liquid crystal layer; a plurality of light receiving elements which detect ambient light; and a control unit which controls a display state of an image displayed on the liquid crystal panel based on an intensity of the ambient light detected by a plurality of the light receiving elements, wherein the control unit includes a determination unit determining that the intensity of the ambient light is changed when changed amounts of the intensities of the ambient light detected by equal to or more than half of the light receiving elements exceed a predetermined value.
