The method includes inserting the sealing plate 16 into the opening of the battery outer can 15 so that the top faces of both the battery outer can 15 and the flange of the sealing plate 16 are substantially in the same plane, and irradiating the fitted part of the opening of the battery outer can 15 and the sealing plate 16 with a high energy beam for welding.
