The method of overwriting data in a storage unit of an image forming apparatus includes configuring a plurality of overwriting options corresponding to data stored in the storage unit; deleting the data stored in the storage unit according to a delete instruction; and overwriting data according to the configuration of the plurality of overwriting options corresponding to the data stored in the storage unit.
