To accomplish this, a printing apparatus stores, in storage unit, information for determining a paper discharge destination to which sheets are to be discharged from among a plurality of paper discharge destinations. In a case where a newly connected sheet processing apparatus is a sheet processing apparatus of the same type as an immediately previously connected sheet processing apparatus, the printing apparatus does not change the information stored in the storage unit. In a case where a newly connected sheet processing apparatus is a sheet processing apparatus of a different type, the printing apparatus updates the information stored in the storage unit.
