Ophthalmic compositions that comprise 0.1 ppm to 2 ppm of poly(hexamethylene biguanide); and 0.005 wt. % to 0.3 wt. % of a PEG-glycerol ester of general formula I wherein R1 is a C3-C8alkyl and R2 is H or a C1-C4alkyl; and x+y+z has an average value from 8 to 30. The invention is also directed to the use of the ophthalmic compositions to clean and disinfect contact lenses, and in particular, soft, silicone hydrogel contact lenses.
