A Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) system according to one embodiment of the present invention includes an RFID device having a memory; and an electronic device in electrical communication with the RFID device via a direct physical connection; wherein data received by the RFID device from a remote device is stored in the memory of the RFID device, the data being communicated to the electronic device via the direct physical connection. An RFID system according to another embodiment of the present invention includes an RFID device having a memory; and an electronic device in electrical communication with the RFID device via a direct physical connection; wherein data initiating with the electronic device is stored in the memory of the RFID device for subsequent transmission to a remote device.
