In one example, the method comprises, determining an AESS emission credit corresponding to an amount of AESS operation; and adjusting an engine operating parameter based on the determined AESS emission credit. Further, in another example, the method comprises retarding injection timing in response to manifold air temperature, wherein an amount of retard is adjusted responsive to an amount of AESS operation.
