Polyurethane elastomers from renewable resources
Abstract:
A process is disclosed for preparing a elastomer by contacting under reaction conditions: a) an isocyanate component comprising an isocyanate-terminated prepolymer having an isocyanate (NCO) content of 10 to 30 weight percent where the prepolymer is the reaction product of a stoichiometric excess of one or more di- or poly-isocyanate compounds, collectively referred to hereinafter as isocyanate component, with a first polyol component; b) a second polyol component; and c) an effective amount of a blowing agent to provide a polyurethane elastomer with a density of from 200 to 1200 kg/m3; wherein a) and b) are used at an isocyanate index of from 85 to 115, and at least one of the first polyol composition and the second polyol composition contains at least one hydroxymethyl-containing polyester polyol.
